SRD Emergency Program to host wildfire preparedness talks

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Wildfire season is coming up, and the district wants residents to be prepared.

The Strathcona Regional District Emergency Program is hosting two wildfire preparedness presentations on February 7th and 12th.

The presentations will focus on wildfire preparedness for homeowners, as well as how to reduce the risk of wildfire threats to homes and communities.

Facilitators will discuss the unique challenges and obstacles when it comes to fighting wildfires, and practical ways of mitigating the issue.

On February 7th, the Village of Sayward and the Strathcona Emergency Program will co-host the presentation on FireSmart Principles. A facilitator from Strategic Natural Resources will also be present to answer residents’ questions.

The presentation will be held at the Kelsey Recreation Centre from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

On February 12th, the presentation will be held at the Oyster Bay Resort Hall from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Both presentations are open to the public and are free of charge.
