“Cupboard” helps expectant families with clothing, supplies

CAMPBELL RIVER, BC – Families who need maternity and baby clothing and supplies now have another resource to go to.

A pantry-style cupboard is located at the Campbell River Maternity Clinic waiting area. It’s filled with baby clothes, maternity clothing, as well as nursing and other baby supplies.

The clinic’s medical office assistant Carole Kommnick says she leaves it open so families can look through the cupboard before or after their appointments.

Kommnick adds some families are too shy to take items, but she encourages everyone to use it.

“They can always pay it forward and bring it back when they’re done with it,” Kommnick said.

She says the cupboard is very useful for families who end up at the hospital unexpectedly.

“People sometimes have to come to Campbell River from the North Island before they were planning to and may have nothing with them.”

The cupboard is stocked with donations from community members, as well as hospital staff. The clinic is accepting baby clothes from newborn to nine months, and supplies like diapers and unopened baby toiletries. Those who wish to donate is asked to contact Kommnick at [email protected]
