Only one of the old John Hart surge towers remains.
The second one was felled at around 9:24 on Thursday morning. Residents living near the dam and those travelling nearby may have heard the explosion.
The second tower was felled in the same way the first one was: precise explosives were attached to some of the base girders and detonated.
Just like the first time, there was a 450-metre closure radius around the towers to keep the public safe.
The 90-metre tall tower weighed 600 tons. Crews had to cut some of the eight supporting girder legs. They attached linear shape charges and detonated those to make sure the metal was fully separated and displaced.
The third tower is in good condition and will stay. BC Hydro spokesperson Stephen Watson says the tower has communications equipment. The tower will also remain as a visual aid for the airport.
The old John Hart facility was in operation from 1947 to 2018. The old facility was officially shut down last fall and replaced with a new underground hydroelectric facility.
