There’s a summer camp igniting possibilities for future female firefighters.
Girls who dream of becoming firefighters now have an opportunity to learn more about their future careers at Camp Ignite.
It’s happening August 6th to 9th on the Lower Mainland and it’s open to girls in Campbell River.
They must be in grades 11 to 12, between the ages of 16 to 18.
“Camp Ignite is inspiring and connects girls with what’s important to them, even beyond what they learn about firefighting,” says Campbell River Fire Chief Thomas Doherty. “This camp reminds girls they have limitless opportunities, demonstrating that anything is possible.”
The camp is providing an introduction to the world of firefighting, and, thanks to BC sponsors and local fire departments, it’s all free.
All firefighter gear, accommodations, meals, activity fees and transportation is included for participants all no cost.
“All you have to do is show up with a great attitude and a sense of adventure,” Doherty adds.
Applications to attend Camp Ignite are now open until May 1st.
They can be found at local high schools, the Campbell River fire department and through this website.
As part of the application, you’re required to write a short essay on mentorship.
Paper copies can be brought in person to the downtown fire hall at 675 13th Ave. or emailed to [email protected].
