Campbell River coffee group wins $1-million 6/49 jackpot

Campbell River’s Keith Notter and his friends are a little richer.

The seven men won Wednesday’s Guaranteed Prize of $1-million in the Lotto 6/49 draw.

The group meets for coffee every Wednesday where they chat about life and purchase their group play lottery tickets for the week.

They first met 30 years ago when working together at a local copper and zinc mine, but their friendship blossomed when they retired and began their coffee get-togethers.

Notter purchased the winning ticket at Merecroft Village and says they’ve been getting together for the last four years.

“Everyone chips in five bucks and we buy tickets for the Lotto 6/49 and Lotto Max draws. This is the first time we’ve ever won anything this big. We never made any plans because we never believed we would win.”

Even after winning the big prize, the group still plans to meet for coffee and play the lottery.

“We’re not letting anyone join our group,” joked one of the group members.
