The Campbell River RCMP says mental health calls can become very dangerous, very quickly.
This comes after police responded to a public complaint of continued yelling at Cambridge Park on Tuesday at around 11:00pm.
Upon arrival, Const. Maury Tyre says police found a 24-year-old man having a “mental health crisis.”
“He pulled a knife on officers and then held it to his own throat expressing a desire to die,” Tyre says.
While trying to de-escalate the situation, Tyre says the man made a move toward officers with the knife in hand.
This resulted in officers having to use a taser, which helped them to disarm the man without harm to themselves or the public.
The man was then checked by paramedics before being taken to hospital for assessment.
