ICBC has released its annual traffic collision statistics for 2022, highlighting the most dangerous intersections in BC.
In Campbell River, ICBC stats show the top ten worst intersections are all along Dogwood Street and Island Highway.
The worst collision location was at second and Dogwood Street, which had 15 crashes last year. Ten of them resulted in injuries or fatalities. The same intersection has had 60 crashes in the last five years.
The worst intersection over the last five years has been Dogwood and Island Highway, by the Discovery Harbour Mall, which has had 67 crashes, 37 of them resulting in injuries or fatalities.
The city is currently working on a revised Master Transportation Plan to better address traffic issues. The draft plan includes research done into local intersections, and while the data is mostly consistent with ICBC crash statistics, the city’s top ten worst intersections are ranked based on collisions as well as the amount of traffic using the intersections.

The city is collecting public feedback about the plan, which includes a proposal to put Dogwood Street on a “road diet,” closing two lanes in either direction and building dedicated bike lanes.
