Drivers have until midnight tonight to have their say on city plans to improve traffic flow, including a proposed ‘road diet’ for Dogwood Street.
The city is collecting public feedback on proposed changes to the Master Transportation Plan and recommendations in the Dogwood Corridor Study, which proposes reducing Dogwood from four lanes to two, with a dedicated left-turn lane in the middle.
ICBC recently released annual crash stats, which show most of Campbell River’s high-risk intersections are on Dogwood. City transportation specialist Melissa Heidema says the data is being considered by city planners.
“That study is looking at all the major intersections from end to end of Dogwood Street, and the goal is to improve both the efficiency and the safety,” she says. “We are looking carefully at all of the intersections along Dogwood and also throughout Campbell River that have been flagged by ICBC.”
The draft plan proposes changes to encourage more people to use bicycles and public transit, while making streets safer for pedestrians.
The survey closes at midnight, to participate visit the city’s survey page.
