BC Ferries wants to build a new ferry terminal at Heriot Bay on Quadra Island, so larger ferries can handle the Cortes Island route.
The Strathcona Regional District is holding a public hearing about the proposal next Monday, on October 23. According to a report from the district, BC Ferries has asked to rezone a piece of waterfront property in Heriot Bay for a new terminal.
Plans include a new access trestle, pedestrian waiting room, and a dock that can handle ‘Island Class’ ferries and possibly even larger ‘Salish Class’ ferries in the future.
The ferry corporation is planning to replace the Cortes Island route’s aging Tachek with a larger Island-class ferry by 2026.
