No one was hurt in an early-morning fire at a condo complex on Erickson Road, and residents are now sheltering at a local church.
Approximately 120 residents from 60 units, many of them seniors, have been displaced.
The fire department is now investigating, and says witness reports indicate the fire may have started on the outside of the building on the third floor, and spread into the attic. The formal investigation hasn’t yet confirmed those suspicions.
The fire department says that just before 2:30 am this morning, they were called out to a structure fire at 155 Erickson, the site of a multi-building condominium complex. Approximately 20 firefighters responded, with help from the Oyster River Fire Department.
All residents were evacuated, no serious injuries have been reported. They are sheltering this morning at the Campbell River Baptist Church, and are being helped out by the Strathcona Regional District’s Emergency Support Services program.
The entire third floor of the east building is severely damaged. The extent of the damage inside remains unknown. Firefighters and city officials are still investigating, people are asked to stay away and to follow directions from officials on site.

Along with the fire department, the city is thanking the RCMP, BC Emergency Health Services, BC Transit, Baptist Church, Passage View Motel, ESS volunteers, and the local taxi companies, who supported the response.
Evacuated residents are encouraged to reach out for support and information on temporary access to the building at 250-203-1972.
