New support village on Homewood offering open house Sept 11

A new village for people struggling with homelessness and addiction is coming together on Homewood Road, and the public can get more information next month.

Lookout Housing and Health Society, which operates a similar village in Duncan, will run the site.

Mayor Kermit Dahl says having a trusted operator for the village is key in the city’s efforts to address the cycle of homelessness in Campbell River, and to create a healthy and safe community for everyone.

The village will be called Homewood and will provide temporary housing and 24-7 support for people looking to get off the streets. It will also connect them with treatment and long-term housing options.

Workers are on site this month installing the housing units and connecting services. It’s expected to be open for residents later this fall.

An open house will be held on September 11 at the Maritime Heritage Centre, to RSVP to attend, visit the city’s event page.
