With construction under way on a new pool for Strathcona Gardens, the official ground-breaking ceremony was held on Tuesday.
Members of the Strathcona Gardens Commission, which oversees the facility, along with regional district board members and representatives from the Wei Wai Kum First Nation gathered for the ceremony. Commission chair and city councillor Susan Sinnott provided opening remarks, pointing out how important the new facility will be for the community.
The first phase of the project is to build a new aquatic and wellness centre, west of the existing pool. It will include an eight-lane pool, therapy and hot pools, a leisure pool with a lazy river, climbing wall, and waterslide. A new fitness and wellness centre will also be built.
Phase one is expected to be completed by 2027.
