Campbell River Mayor Kermit Dahl says he’s looking forward to working with the North Island’s new MLA, but he’s disappointed in the overall provincial election results.
Dahl says both parties strayed from the issues that mattered to voters, and focused too much on attacking each other’s platforms. He says they should have stuck to the issues and their points instead of trying to mislead voters about what their opponents were saying.
“The whole thing is disappointing, really. I’m not talking about who wins or who loses, but the way the whole campaign was conducted, to me, was severely disappointing,” he said Sunday morning. “It’s disappointing to mislead people, in a way, to try and get votes.
“I really hated seeing it happening in our riding. I thought that we were better than that.”
However, he says he is looking forward to working with Anna Kindy whether she ends up in government or in opposition, but he hopes she does end up in government once the final results are in.
Dahl says it will be more beneficial to the entire riding to have a representative who is part of the ruling party.
Meanwhile, he says he is hoping the final results can be tallied sooner rather than later — Elections BC is committed to have them all in by October 26.
