Carihi students will soon be able to take all their classes on site, with repairs from November’s fire expected to be completed in a few months.
School District 72 Superintendent Geoff Manning provided a brief update at this week’s school board meeting.
“The remediation crews have been working hard over the break and continue to do so,” he said. “We are making good progress and we will have classrooms up and running within the next month and a half at Carihi, so we’re looking forward to that.”
Currently, while B-wing is being repaired, students are being transported by bus to take some classes at the former Oyster River school south of Campbell River. Some classes are also being held at Ecole des Deux Mondes Elementary and gym classes are being held at the Robron Centre.
Last month the fire department determined the fire was accidental, caused by spontaneous combustion due to a reaction between cooking oils on fabrics, heat after laundering, and inadequate ventilation.
