Smoke, but no fire at Carihi this afternoon during repair work

If you see smoke at Carihi this afternoon, don’t worry, it’s all part of ongoing repairs, and not another fire.

The school district says that today, as part of restoration work ongoing at Carihi Secondary after November’s fire, crews will be conducting extreme thermal fogging in the five fire-damaged B-wing classrooms.

The process involves heating and spraying a deodorizer in fog form. The mixture attaches to smoke particles and absorbs them, neutralizing any odour from the building’s ceiling panels, walls, and flooring. During the process, what looks like smoke may leak out of doors, windows, and vents.

The district has notified the fire department that there’s no cause for concern.

The work will take place sometime after 3 pm today.
