With more cold weather and possibly snow in the forecast, the city will have the warming centre open for the next four nights at the downtown community centre.
The warming centre will be open from 10 p.m. in the evening until 7 a.m. the following morning, for all four nights ending Tuesday morning. It will be staffed by individuals who have experience working with the homeless and will be available to provide support.
It’s open to everyone for short-term stays and is a place for people to come in, warm up, and get information about support resources.
Visitors can bring pets on leashes and belongings, including bikes and carts. Hot drinks, snacks and seating will be available.
As this is a warming centre only, with funding provided by the Province through Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, beds are not provided. This service supplements overnight shelter beds and daytime services already available within the community, such as Kwesa Place, Evergreen Shelter and Housing, and the 40 temporary housing units with support services provided by the City and BC Housing at 1299 Homewood Road.
