The school district is hoping to demolish the fire-damaged wing of Carihi Secondary School during spring break, so renovations can go ahead.
School District 72 says it’s waiting on a permit approval from the city, but once it’s in hand, crews can demolish A-wing, including the teaching kitchen, band room, storage rooms, and hallway. If all goes smoothly, it could be finished before students return on April 1.
The maintenance team has developed a plan that will allow the gym, mezzanine, drama room, and lower classrooms to be repaired instead of rebuilt. As well, classrooms in B-wing and the multipurpose rooms will re-open after spring break, so students won’t have to travel to Oyster River anymore.
The district will provide updates as the work continues.
