One of the negotiators of the Great Bear Rainforest legacy is welcoming the international recognition the agreement is receiving.

The legacy was officially recognized as part of The Queen's Commonwealth Canopy Initiative ceremony at Buckingham Palace yesterday.

The initiative raises awareness of work being done in commonwealth countries to conserve forests for future generations.

Dallas Smith, who was one of the negotiators who worked to develop the legacy, says he was pleased to see the legacy selected for this kind of international recognition.

A new trust has been established to help the Great Bear Rainforest.
The million-dollar trust was established to commemorate the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and to celebrate the endorsement of the rainforest under the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy Initiative.

Clark says the remaining 15% will help support coastal logging and economic opportunity for first nation, and continue their tradition to make a living off the land.
As well they've signed a reconciliation protocol that includes a greater stake in the forest sector, and an end of the grizzly hunt in coastal First Nation traditional territories.

Saving B.C. Wolves https://www.mycampbellrivernow.com/6786/news/saving-b-c-wolves/ https://www.mycampbellrivernow.com/6786/news/saving-b-c-wolves/#respond Wed, 23 Sep 2015 19:18:48 +0000 http://www.mycampbellrivernow.com/?p=6786

Pacific Wild is fighting to end the wolf cull in the province.
And Miley Cyrus and her brother Braison came to island to join the battle.
The government of B.C. is trying to help the declining population of caribou, but have put an emphasized on predator control.

So, over the weekend, the group along with the Cyrus' and members of the Kitasoo First Nation traveled up north to the Great Bear Rainforest for research.
Pacific Wild director of multi-media April Bencze says Miley Cyrus learned a lot from the trip.

Bencze says what's causing the rapid population decline in caribou is habitat loss, and the best way to help the animals is to protect it.
