STORM TAKE BRONZE AT CYCLONE TAYLOR CUP

The Campbell River Storm went to the 2016 Cyclone Taylor Cup on the weekend intent on taking home the Gold and defending their title as BC Champions. The competition didn’t go as planned and they found themselves in the Bronze Medal game on Sunday where they faced Mission City.

They played their best game of the tournament and dispatched the Outlaws 8-4 to capture a medal. Given the close losses leading up to the medal round, Head Coach Lee Stone was pleased with the effort.

Christian Brandt led the way with two goals. Other scoring came from Gage Colpron, Alex Rosolowsky, Reece Costain, Carter Hikichi, Dylan McCann and Josh Coblenz. Riley Welyk and Jake Mullen shared the goal tending duties.

Three years ago, when Stone took the reins, Campbell River was ranked 33rd in the province. Now the Storm Junior B program is considered one of the best in Western Canada. With his contract coming up and other offers coming in, Storm fans are wondering if he’ll be behind the bench next season.

In the Gold Medal game, the 100 Mile House Wranglers defeated the Victoria Cougars, 5-4, and will represent BC at the Western Canadians in Regina later this week.
