Major emergency preparedness exercise on the Island

A major emergency preparedness exercise is taking place in Port Alberni this week.
Minister of State for Emergency Preparedness Naomi Yamamoto says this event runs simultaneously with an exercise taking place in the US.
She says that about 600 people will be involved, and the exercise will involve a mock earthquake and tsunami.
She says crews will be deployed in real-time to fully simulate what protocols would be taken if a real disaster were to hit the region.
The training exercise runs until Friday. This is Western Canada’s first full-scale earthquake and tsunami response test.
