With kids out of school, drivers reminded to watch for busy roads

ICBC is urging all road users to have a safe summer.

Spokesperson Caroline Robinson says with school out, there’s going to be a lot more kids out during the day.

She says drivers need to obey playground zones and make sure you’re paying full attention when behind the wheel.

She adds that walkers also need to pay attention when out and about.

“Distracted walking falls right in hand with distracted driving with our devices in our ears and in our hands with our heads down,” she says.

Robinson says that it’s important to keep your heads up and if you’re riding something with wheels, to always be wearing a helmet.

According to ICBC, 33 youth pedestrians and 22 youth cyclists are injured in crashes each year on Vancouver Island.
