Vehicles involved in fatal crash may have “interacted” beforehand

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C- Police believe two vehicles involved in a fatal accident Wednesday night may have interacted in some way before it happened.

According to a press release from the RCMP, police were called to the scene of an accident between a motorcycle and a truck at 8:00 p.m on July 11th, on Highway 19 near Woodburn Road.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 62 year old man, suffered fatal injuries and was found dead at the scene.

The 58 year old female driver of the truck was taken into police custody and later released.

Alcohol and speed are contributing factors to the crash and charges are pending. In the release, Sgt. Dave Johnson asked any witnesses to come forward.

“If anyone has information or witnessed this crash they are asked to call the Campbell River RCMP”, said Johnson.

“We believe there was interaction between the truck and the motorcycle beginning in the downtown area of Campbell River before the crash, north of the Campbell River.”

Highway 19 was closed down for over three hours causing traffic to be rerouted around the scene to allow for investigation.

Campbell River RCMP, with assistance from the North Vancouver Island Traffic Services and the BC Coroners Service are continuing the investigation.
