Petition to change bus service under review, says B.C. Transit

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – A petition launched by seniors in Campbell River is currently under review, according to B.C. Transit spokesperson Jonathon Dyck.

The petition asks that the bus stop by the Campbell River, Courtenay and District Labour Council hall be re-installed, which would make it easier for seniors and those with mobility-issues to get on the bus and get to the hospital as many seniors homes and residences are in the Ironwood St and 14th Avenue area.

Other changes the petition asks for are changes to the #7 route. The Campbell River Mirror reported the petition calls for the route to go alternate ways on morning and afternoon trips and for the bus to turn right on 2nd Ave. to the hospital entrance when it heads south.

“We are aware of this petition, and we’re looking at it and the request within it,” said Dyck. He added that B.C. Transit is working with the City of Campbell River to address the concerns in the petition.

“Local governments determine service priorities… therefore, any changes have to be approved by the city.”

According to Dyck, discussions regarding the petition as well as the changes it calls for have already started. He said changes like this take time, as the whole system has to be reviewed, and funding must be taken into consideration as well.
