Back-to-back vehicle fires in Campbell River

Back-to-back vehicle fires are something the Campbell River Fire Department doesn’t see often.

At around 3:00pm yesterday, crews responded to a motorhome fire just north of town.

“The fire had started in the engine compartment of a motorhome and it burned the owner as he attempted to extinguish the fire,” says deputy fire chief Kelly Bellefleur.

Once on scene, firefighters put out the blaze, which was contained to the engine.

Just as crews were finishing up, a call came in that another vehicle caught fire in the Merecroft neighbourhood.

Bellefleur says an SUV was “completely engulfed in flames,” but fortunately, the damage was kept to the vehicle and no one was injured.

“The two fires are not considered related,” Bellefleur adds.
