Honour veterans from home tomorrow

A reminder to honour our veterans tomorrow, but not in person.

City manager Deborah Sargent says the Campbell River Legion is really discouraging spectators’ at its ceremony, in its effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“Unfortunately, there will be no public event this year, no parade, and no in-person laying of wreaths,” Sargent says.

Royal Canadian Legion Central Vancouver Island Deputy Zone Commander Rick Nickerson says attendance is limited to up to 20 people and is reserved for those who are part of the ceremonies.

All invited guests must wear a mask and maintain physical distancing.

Meanwhile, Sargent says people are encouraged to watch a live broadcast of Campbell River’s ceremony and observe two minutes of silence at home.

You can watch it on Shaw TV or on the Campbell River Legion’s Facebook page. The ceremony gets underway at 10:45am.
