BC Nurses Union working to end violence against workers

The BC Nurses Union is welcoming a chance to work with the Health Ministry to deal with violence against its members and other health care workers.

The BCNU and the government confirmed yesterday they’re rolling out a new 2-million dollar program at  four facilities with more to come.

Of the first four, only one is on the Island. Victoria’s Seven Oaks Tertiary Mental Health Care centre.

Gayle Duteil is the BCNU’s president.

Nurses were assaulted earlier this year at two of the four locations chosen to start the program.

Duteil says in one case the nurse has returned to work, but a nurse attacked Abbotsford this March is still recovering.
