Susan Sinnot seeks second term on Campbell River city council

A longtime Campbell River resident and lawyer is seeking a second term on city council.

Susan Sinnot, who has lived in the community since she was four years old, owns a local law firm and is running for re-election.

Sinnot said one of her main reasons for running in 2022 was to boost morale among city staff. She also believes council is more in tune with residents’ concerns than it was four years ago.

“We understand our city, and I think there is a level of better service in the city,” Sinnot said.

Sinnot welcomed the progress on housing projects in Campbell River but said more needs to be done to ensure residents have enough options.

“Our housing needs are still in the range of over 500 units a year, and we’re maybe getting into 300 or 400 units a year so we’re still not accomplishing what we need to do,” conceded Sinnot. “It is a challenge, I want to see more not for profit housing being built.”

Her goals for the next council term include restoration work at McIvor Lake, including a more extensive trail network, and lobbying the provincial and federal governments for grant funding to support local housing initiatives.

“I think we’ve done a pretty good job of accomplishing a lot of things in this community, so I’m excited to keep working on what we’ve built, and see some real accomplishments in the next four years.”

General voting day is Oct. 17.
