Grizzly bear spotted in Sayward

The Village of Sayward is advising residents to exercise extreme caution after a grizzly bear was spotted in the area.

The village is urging residents not to approach the bear under any circumstances.

“Your awareness and cooperation are essential to keep everyone safe, including the bear,” the village said in a warning posted to Facebook.

Residents are asked to stay alert, especially at dawn or dusk, secure attractants such as food and garbage, supervise children and pets, and carry bear spray.

The municipality said anyone who encounters the bear should remain calm and back away slowly. Residents are also asked to report sightings to the B.C. Conservation Officer Service RAPP line.
