Waitlist opens for new housing for healthcare professionals in Campbell River

A new housing facility for health-care professionals in Campbell River has opened its waitlist to support long-term recruitment and retention in the North Island.

The Health Professionals Housing facility is expected to welcome its first residents in September. The Strathcona Regional District said the development is centrally located and designed to provide flexible accommodation for professionals at all stages of their careers.

“The facility provides flexible accommodation for healthcare professionals, whether they’re visiting the region for short-term assignments, completing training or placements, relocating to the community, or establishing long-term practices,” the regional district said.

The facility is located near Campbell River Hospital. Regional district board chair Mark Baker said the 20-unit project shows what can be achieved when governments work together.

“This project is a great example of what local governments can accomplish when they take a regional approach to solving challenges,” he said. “By helping healthcare professionals find housing and establish their roots in our communities, we’re making a long-term investment in the health and well-being of residents across the North Island.”

The regional district said it hopes the project will help attract and retain health-care workers needed in northern Vancouver Island.

The project is currently wait-listed.
