Campbell River fire hall staff temporarily relocate after water damage

The Campbell River fire department is temporarily relocating staff from Fire Hall No. 1 after heavy rain and wind led to water entering the building.

The city said a hazardous materials survey identified asbestos-containing materials in areas affected by the leak. Staff are being relocated as a precaution while the city addresses the water damage.

The on-duty fire crew will operate from the city’s Enterprise Resource Centre next to City Hall until further notice. Dispatch staff will work from the North Island 9-1-1 backup centre.

“Emergency services continue as usual, with no impacts to fire suppression or 9-1-1 dispatch expected,” said the city in a statement.

The relocation will remain in effect until further notice.
