A state of local emergency has been declared in Zeballos because of flooding and the risk of potential landslides.
An evacuation order is in effect for 101 to 118 Maquinna Avenue and 202 to 216 Pandora Crescent. Residents at those addresses are being told to leave immediately and go to the emergency reception centre at the Zeballos Fire Hall, at 155 Maquinna Avenue.
“The Village of Zeballos and SRD are actively monitoring flooding and potential landslide risks in the area,” said a statement from the Strathcona Regional District. “Both the Village of Zeballos and SRD Emergency Operations Centres (EOC) are activated and coordinating response efforts. Residents under Evacuation Order may be eligible for Emergency Support Services.”
An evacuation alert is also in place for 402 to 406 Ferris Road. Residents there should be prepared to leave on short notice.
People in the Pandora, Gold Valley and Reno roads area are being encouraged to shelter in place and remain in their homes.
