Tree chipping a success for Campbell River firefighters

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.- Firefighters in the region came together to help residents dispose of their Christmas trees safely this weekend.

The Campbell River fire department held its annual tree chipping at the Sportsplex.

Firefighter Debra Rogers said they were able to raise $1150.

Funds went towards the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund. The fund offers support for children and adults who have suffered severe and traumatic burns.

“That was up from last year, which was awesome and I think the decent weather helped,” she said.

“We had lots of help from the department and we’re really proud of how it went this weekend.”

Rogers said average donations came in at $5 and $10, and they were able to take in hundreds of trees.
