City awards local initiatives more than $100,000 through social grant funding program

Campbell River’s new Social Grant Program is aimed to inspire positive change.

Council awarded more than $100,000 in social grant funding on Monday.

Thirteen applications were given funding for numerous social initiatives, ranging from a youth carving program to mental health initiatives addressing homelessness.

“By providing this funding, we aim to support local organizations to address a range of social issues,” says Mayor Andy Adams. “The program has been designed with a focus on collaboration, and the results are clear: the program has leveraged almost three times the contribution we are providing.”

One goal of the program is to assist non-profit organizations in accessing more funding while collaborating with other organizations for larger impacts.

Numerous organizations are joining forces to deliver programs and services, with approximately $100,000 of in-kind contributions provided by volunteers and staff.

“We were very impressed by the quality and variety of applications received,” says Cleo Corbett, senior planner with the City. “These projects have the potential for a very meaningful impact on the community. We look forward to the roll-out of these programs and initiatives and will aim to measure the benefits of this funding for the community.”

Following this launch year, the grant program will be refined and formally established as a yearly program.

The next intake for social grant applications is expected this fall.
