As Christmas approaches, City highlights temporary service changes

With the holiday season upon us, the City of Campbell River is sending out a reminder about some upcoming temporary service changes.

Garbage and Recycling Collection:

The City says Friday curbside garbage and recycling collection on both Christmas Day and New Years Day will be moved over to the following Mondays (Dec. 28th, Jan. 4th).

Like past years, Emterra will collect an additional container of garbage at no charge the week of December 28th and January 4th. The City says unlimited amounts of recycling will be collected.

Meanwhile, curbside yard waste collection resumes the first week of March. In the meantime, the landfill on Argonaut Road will accept leaves and grass at no charge, as long as no chipping is required. For yard waste that requires chipping, a $10 fee is charged for less than 100 kilograms, or $65/tonne.

Christmas Tree Chipping:

The City says the Campbell River Fire Dept. will once again offer Christmas tree chipping. You can bring your tree to the lower Sportsplex parking lot on Saturday, January 2nd from 10 am till 4 pm.

This service is by donation, and it’s all in support of the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund and local charities. COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed with a drive-thru style drop off.

Bus Service:

Regular transit services continue in Campbell River, with a number of precautions now in place to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 on buses. Masks are mandatory for your entire transit journey. Find more info here.

The City says this year’s Christmas Lights tour has been cancelled.

There’s no service available on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Years Day, and an extended bus service on New Year’s Eve will not be offered this year. December 31st bus service will run according to the regular Thursday schedule.

Holiday Facility Closures:

The City adds that the Sportsplex will be closed from December 19 to January 10th for floor repairs. The Community Centre is closed on Christmas Day, December 28th, and New Years Day.

City Hall and the Dogwood Operations Centre are also closed on Christmas Day, December 28th and New Years Day. For urgent service related to parks, roads, water or sewer, call (250) 287-7444.
