Since the Strathcona Gardens and Sportsplex recycling depots could be removed, city council is discussing options to keep a recycling depot in the south end of the city.
Even though the city is expecting curbside recycling pick up for multi-family complexes, which gives nearly all residents access to recycling pick-up from their home, cutting out these bins could affect many.
Manager of communications of the Comox Strathcona Waste Management Koreen Gurak says moving these smaller recycling bins that don’t necessarily have the full establishment of recycling is a good service to the community.
She adds it was challenging to upkeep and maintain the bins, and the service is being offered at curb side and some approved multi material BC depots, which take more than the Strathcona and Sportplex locations.
The Comox Strathcona Solid Waste board will discuss the future of the two recycling depots September 17, 2015.
