Another COVID-19 exposure at a Campbell River school

Kids are back in the classroom and it seems COVID-19 could be as well. Four more B.C. schools are reporting the virus in their communities, including three on Vancouver Island.

In Campbell River, Island Health is pointing to a COVID-19 exposure at Ecole Willow Point. According to officials, dates of potential exposure were Sept. 7th, 8th, and 9th.

As well, My Campbell River Now shared yesterday (Monday) that an exposure was reported at Sandowne Elementary School. Island Health says the date of potential exposure was Sept. 7th.

Other new B.C. schools on the list are:

  • Discovery School – Shawnigan Lake
  • Alberni Elementary – Port Alberni
  • Chilliwack Secondary – Chilliwack

This brings the total number of school exposures in the province to 43 since classes started last week. There are reports in all types of schools, including Christian, elementary, and secondary, in schools across the province, from Golden to Prince George, throughout the lower mainland, and Vancouver Island.

While school districts are reporting continued enhanced cleaning processes, the “cohort” system that limited the number of contacts each child has was not implemented this school year. Mask wearing is only encouraged, not mandated, for children in Kindergarten through Grade 3.
