It’s a dark and dreary day in Campbell River, with a Friday morning power outage affecting thousands across town.
According to BC Hydro, more than 3,500 of its customers are currently without power in areas south of 9th Ave., with a tree down across wires to blame.
The power went out just before 9:50 am, but BC Hydro says crews are now on site. The power’s expected to come back around 10:30 am.
More updates will be posted here.

Meanwhile, it’s another classic day of west coast weather.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for East Vancouver Island, from Duncan to Campbell River, with rainfall of 20 to 40 millimetres combined with winds of 60 km/h gusting to 80 expected.
The statement is also in effect for Inland Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.
The weather agency says a strong pacific frontal system is expected to arrive this morning (Friday) and continue through tomorrow morning, with the strongest winds later tonight.
