Recycling Bins are here to stay

The recycling bins at Strathcona gardens are here to stay.
General Manager of Engineering Services Marc Rutten says the motion was defeated last week at the Comox Strathcona Waste Management Services board meeting.
According to city council, the location and convenience of Island Return It wasn’t enough for south end residents, therefore closing the bins would cause an inconvenience.
The bins at Strathcona Gardens collect roughly 366 tonnes of recyclables per year, but consequently $36,000 is also spent on clean-up due to the misuse of the facility.
The recycling bins will remain open, and other options will still be considered for the future.
