IIO investigates police involvement in Campbell River bike crash

An investigation is currently being conducted by the Independent Investigations Office of BC into Campbell River RCMP’s involvement after a man sustained serious injuries.

The report says police responded to a call shortly after 1 a.m. on Feb. 4 to an armed man in the driveway of a home in the 100 block of Reef Crescent.

According to police, the man fled the residence on a dirt bike headed south before turning onto Erickson Road where he crashed the bike and sustained a serious, but not life-threatening injury shortly after.

According to the IIO, they were notified shortly after the incident occurred, and have already taken steps to confirm exactly what happened during the incident, and what role police played in the man’s injury.

The IIO is asking if anyone has any footage, or information to contact the witness line at 855-446-8477 or through their website.
