BC Wildfire Service salutes local partners following training on Cortes Island

The BC Wildfire Service says a training session last weekend with the Cortes Island Fire Department and the Strathcona Regional District was a valuable experience.

On June 14, crews from the three organizations participated in classroom discussions, hands-on exercises and a simulated wildland-urban interface incident, allowing firefighters to work through a realistic scenario.

The BC Wildfire Service said the training exercise provides opportunities to build relationships, share knowledge and enhance the ability to respond effectively when wildfires threaten communities.

“We are grateful for this and other opportunities to learn alongside communities and strengthen our shared commitment to protecting the people, homes and landscapes that make B.C. so special,” said a statement from the BC Wildfire Service.

The service added the Cortes Island Fire Department demonstrates a strong commitment to protecting its community through continued training, preparedness initiatives and collaboration with partner agencies.
