SRD seeking publics opinion on hazards, risks and vulnerabilities

The Strathcona Regional District is inviting residents of Campbell River, Cortes Island, Gold River, Sayward, Tahsis and Zeballos to help develop a new hazard, risk and vulnerability analysis.

Hazard, risk and vulnerability analyses are part of the regional emergency management program.

The regional district said residents can participate by attending drop-in sessions and workshops throughout the summer or by completing an online survey.

“Community input is essential to this process,” said SRD board chair Mark Baker. “Residents bring valuable local knowledge and firsthand experience that help us better understand the risks facing our communities. Their feedback helps improve emergency planning, strengthen public education, and ensure we focus on the hazards that matter most. This work supports the Board’s strategic priorities of engaging with our communities and proactively preparing for emergency events and climate change impacts.”

The SRD said it is focusing on the six communities because their Community Wildfire Resiliency Plans are being updated. It said it plans to use a similar all-hazards public engagement process in other areas in the future.

Resident feedback will help determine risk levels and guide future emergency preparedness priorities.

The survey is open until Friday, Oct. 9, 2026
