City of Campbell River applies for emergency preparedness grant

The City of Campbell River is partnering with the Strathcona Regional District to apply for an emergency preparedness grant to support a training exercise.

City council approved the application for the 2026 Community Emergency Preparedness Fund Emergency Support Services grant program, administered by the Union of B.C. Municipalities. The regional district will submit the application on the city’s behalf.

The approximately $11,000 request would fund an exercise in Campbell River to help emergency support services volunteers practice setting up and operating temporary lodging for evacuees.

“The exercise would provide the emergency support services volunteers with practical experiencing in establishing and operating a temporary lodging for evacuees,” said Jeff Ford, the city’s director of community safety. “The emergency support services are the emergency team staffed by regional district staff, that supports the city as well.”

Ford said the grant would help strengthen regional emergency preparedness and collaboration with the regional district and First Nations partners.
