Carihi gym restoration enters construction preparation

The Campbell River School District has provided an update on ongoing repairs to Carihi Secondary School following a 2024 fire.

Demolition work is underway inside the school gym as restoration work moves toward the construction phase.

School District 72 says crews are preparing the space for construction.

Planning is also continuing for a replacement of the school’s A-Wing, with consultants evaluating three potential locations.

The district says soil conditions at the site require additional engineering work before construction plans can be finalized.

A provincial project sign will list September 2028 as the expected completion date for the overall recovery project, including the gym and replacement A-Wing.

The district says the two projects are following separate timelines, while classes and extracurricular activities continue at the school.
