New board of education for SD72 sworn in

School District 72’s newly elected Board of Education officially began its four-year term at an inaugural meeting Nov. 3.

Trustees took the oath of office and assumed their responsibilities as members of the board.

The seven trustees are:

  • Shannon Briggs – Sayward Valley
  • Hannah Clausen – Greater Campbell River
  • Kat Eddy – Greater Campbell River
  • Jan Gladish – Discovery Islands (Quadra, Cortes and Read)
  • Craig Gillis – Greater Campbell River
  • Daryl Hagen – Greater Campbell River
  • Joyce McMann – Greater Campbell River

Trustees also elected the board’s leadership for the coming year.

Craig Gillis, who previously served as board chair, was re-elected by acclamation.

Joyce McMann was elected vice-chair by acclamation.

Gillis thanked the community for its confidence in the new board and emphasized that students will remain at the centre of its work.

“We are here to serve our students. We may think differently at times, but through debate and our board process, we will make decisions that we believe serve our entire district.”

The board’s first regular public meeting is scheduled for Dec. 1.
