Volunteers Needed for Campbell River Earthquake Drill

Officials are looking for people to take part in Campbell River’s first “Shake Out Then Get Out.”

It’s an earthquake drill that coincides with the worldwide Great Shakeout initiative.

Shaun Koopman, Strathcona Regional District’s Protective Services Coordinator, says earthquake safety is a little different in Campbell River.  People here have to “drop, cover, and hold” and then get out of the flood zone near the dams.

Koopman is hoping 100 people take part in Thursday’s drill. It involves evacuating out of the flood zone to one of five checkpoints.

Anyone who’s interested in participating has to register ahead of time.  You can email Shaun Koopman at [email protected] for more details.
