City adopts gender-inclusive washroom signage policy

Washrooms in Campbell River are getting new, gender-inclusive signage. This comes after council adopted a new policy at Monday’s meeting.

The policy allows for people to choose the washroom of the gender they identify as, regardless of what gender they were born as. The policy includes all city-run facilities in Campbell River.

The decision was made after council got a report from General Manager of Facilities and Supplies Management Dave Morris. The report addresses the discrimination LGBTQ+ people can experience and says that spaces encouraging diversity can help reduce those issues.
