Campbell River council going ahead with $6.2 million redevelopment plan for Nunns Creek Park

The City of Campbell River is advancing with a phased redevelopment of Nunns Creek Park.

The approximately $6.2 million budget for the project will be funded by the provincial Growing Community Fund grant.

Council received updates on the redevelopment during the July 22 and 24 committee meetings and approved a $385,000 budget increase funded through the Community Works Reserve.

According to the city, enhancements to the park — guided by public engagement and input from user groups — will include a four-diamond slo-pitch field, multi-use spaces (such as soccer fields) and flexibility for events.

These upgrades will allow for minor baseball to remain at Willow Point Park.

Detailed design work and site preparation for the four new slo-pitch fields will begin in fall 2025, with construction beginning in 2026.

The city notes that some additional upgrades are also in the works, including park beautification, infrastructure improvements and enhancements for multiple user groups, aligning with the draft Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan.

The playground at the park will be replaced as well.
