North Island MLA Anna Kindy calls for bus stop at Campbell River Food Bank

North Island MLA Anna Kindy is calling for Campbell River’s transit route to include a stop at the Campbell River Food Bank.

Kindy sent a letter to Campbell River city council urging the city and B.C. Transit to consider route adjustments that would better serve people who visit the foodbank.

“The Campbell River Food Bank provides an essential service to many residents in our community who are facing economic hardship,” wrote Kindy in her letter to the city. “A significant number of individuals and families who rely on the food bank do not have access to a personal vehicle, and for them, public transportation is not simply convenient, it is vital.”

She said the current location of the food bank is not served by any transit route.

“Reliable public transit to the food bank would greatly reduce barriers for vulnerable community members, including low-income individuals, seniors, people with disabilities, and families who are already struggling to meet basic needs.”

City Council received Kindy’s letter at its April 16 meeting and referred her request to city staff for consideration.
