A local music and event producer is trading stages for city hall, as he seeks a seat on Campbell River city council.
Lucas Schuller, founder of Highway 19 Concerts and programmer of Spirit Square from 2021 to 2025, said he’s produced over 50 concerts as well as events like the Food Truck Festival, Jazz & Blues Festival, and Night Out Downtown.
He said he wouldn’t be running in the election if he felt like the current council was doing a good job.
“Public safety remains a huge issue,” explained Schuller. “That’s after four years of a council that made that their top priority.”
He noted that affordable housing is also an issue in the city.
“With affordable housing I think we really need to be focusing on where the biggest need is in the community,” said Schuller. “Housing that’s affordable for lower income residents of Campbell River is something we need to prioritize. Those are the folks who are at risk of becoming the next wave of homeless in our community as things continue to get more and more expensive.”
The municipal election is Oct. 17. Keep visiting My Campbell River Now for information on other local candidates.
