STORM GOING TO THE FINALS

The Campbell River Storm punched their ticket to the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) Finals for the second year in a row. They dispatched the Buccaneers in four straight with a convincing 7-1 triumph at the Nanaimo Ice Centre last night.

The Storm struck early and with precision, scoring four goals on their first six shots. Head Coach, Lee Stone, on his team’s performance.

For Campbell River, it was a complete win featuring strong goaltending, solid defence and potent offence. Storm goal scorers were Gage Colpron, Josh Coblenz, Keenan Scardina with singles and Colin Blake with a pair.

Braeden Cyra had a four point night on the strength of two goals and two assists. Stone talks about this very versatile 20-year old.

Jake Mullen continued his winning ways between the pipes. He has yet to be defeated since coming over from the Kootenay International Hockey League (KIJHL) in early January. D-man, Ryan Grills was awarded the team’s “Golden Shovel” for his efforts blocking shots and his   all-around gritty play.

The Storm are awaiting the winner of the Victoria Cougars-Peninsula Panthers series. The Cougs lead, 3 games to none, with game four slated for Monday.
